The Best Colleges for your Astrological Sign: Gemini

It's cold, the holidays are long over, and you’ve watched everything good on Netflix. It might just be the perfect time to begin crafting your college list. We encourage our students to focus on 3 major factors as they create their lists: academic viability, program fit, and social/cultural fit. This third category can be a little confusing. How do you know what social and cultural atmosphere will work for you? Well, we’ve been experimenting with a fun lens for breaking down different social/cultural types: astrology. While we by no means recommend considering your astrological sign seriously in your college decision, it can be a helpful way to organize student archetypes.

What Classes Should I Take in High School to Become a Therapist?

There are many types of therapists. Whether you hope to work at a school, in an office with a chaise lounge, or in a social work office, therapists are there for people in need. While there are several steps to becoming a therapist, it’s never too early to start planning. Let’s break down what you can start doing/taking in high school.

Best Colleges for Creative Writing in California

If you’re thinking of pursuing a career that involves writing — whether in publishing, academia, corporate, or with a nonprofit — you may be thinking about majoring in creative writing in college. As you start looking around for options, you’ll quickly learn that most colleges and universities actually don’t offer creative writing as a major, or even as a minor or concentration. A formal writing program, like Creative Writing, is more uncommon than it is common, so it takes some hunting to find a school that’s a perfect social fit and has the program you want.

Best Colleges for Creative Arts

If you’re thinking of pursuing an art degree in college, you may have heard the phrase “Creative Arts” somewhere in your research. Some colleges do offer undergraduate degrees in “Creative Arts,” but most of those schools aren’t particularly prestigious and many only offer them as two-year degrees. When we work with students, we encourage them to consider colleges that offer more specific degrees in the arts, and that have a strong name recognition as an impressive, prestigious, and good-value institution.

How to Make a Resume for College Application

Writing your college application resume may be one of the last things on your to-do list, and we wouldn’t blame you if it is. When you’re applying to college, the resume is one of the last things students, parents, and teachers talk about — and often they don’t talk about it at all. The silence around the college application resume is probably because the Common App doesn’t make much of a fuss about it either. The resume is practically hidden in the application, and it is typically noted as optional. Why spend much time on something if it’s hidden and optional, after all?

Ideas for Summer Plans for Sophomores in High School

You’re like, officially a high school student now. You are about to finish your sophomore year and become a *rising junior* and all that entails. You know, from your older friends and family scaring you, that junior and senior year get intense. There’s something more serious… more dignified… about 11 and 12 that 10 just doesn’t have. And so in preparation for this more challenging year, you might be tempted to take it easy this summer. Relax. Do nothing. Terrible idea.

Best Colleges for Environmental Science

If you’re considering a major in Environmental Science, finding a college that offers exactly what you’re looking for can be a little tough. Almost every college offers something that looks like Environmental Science — or at least sounds like it — and some people will say, “Isn’t that just biology?” Well, first, no, it’s not. Environmental Science is not the same as biology. It’s studying the environment in a way that overlays natural sciences, social sciences, and policy. Most Environmental Science programs approach this through the lens of problem-solving, hence the policy side.

Best Sport Culture Colleges in US

We have to start this post with a disclaimer: we do not recommend selecting a college based solely on how fun the football games are. That said, we do like a good game of sports ball. And when it comes to college, you should be able to have fun where you end up. For you, that may mean a few tailgates and choreographed fight songs. After all, college isn’t just about classes and grades. You should enjoy yourself inside and outside of the classroom. For many students, that means getting sports into the mix.

Classes to Take in High School for Business

Are you hoping to get into business schools like Wharton, Haas, Stern, Ross, Tepper, McCombs, or the like? Undergraduate business schools want applicants who have already shown commitment to the field and have some business experience. While you can show this through internships and clubs, you can also show this through the classes you take. So you might be asking yourself, what classes should I be taking? Let’s break it down.

How to Build Out Your Extracurriculars for Environmental Science

Environmental Science is becoming the sleeper hit among our clients. There seems to be no other issue that unites Gen Z more than our planet. Oceans, rivers, lakes, plains, and the status of our kids’ own backyards has dominated our client calls for months. It’s also becoming a wildly popular major across top colleges, with many creating in-depth programs aimed at alleviating climate change.

What Classes Should I Take in High School to Become a Lawyer?

Getting into law school? What like it’s hard? Ok, in all seriousness, it is. While many decide in college that they want to go to Law School and become a lawyer, more and more students are figuring out that this is their path earlier. We work with high school students all the time who hope to become lawyers and they always ask us “what can I do in high school to become a lawyer?” It’s kind of a hard question to answer. But we like to start by suggesting classes and clubs that will build the right set of skills to become a lawyer. Let’s break down what those classes look like.

Best Sports Management Colleges

If you love sports, you may be considering a degree in Sports Management. You may be surprised to learn, however, that not many four-year colleges and universities offer undergraduate degrees in Sports Management. If you’re looking to pursue a Bachelor of the Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Sports Management, you’ll have to be willing to choose from a shorter list of options than if, say, you wanted to major in English. That can be a frustrating place to start your collegiate admissions journey, but the good news is that if you do pursue a Sports Management degree, you’ll be set up for success for finding a job in the sports industry — or beyond.

Best Colleges for Creative Students

Students looking to study art, design, or another creative field in college face a unique challenge in the college application process. Students interested in history or science aren’t expected to ‘prove’ an existing commitment to their prospective major (although it may help), whereas students looking to go into the arts are often requested, or even required, to submit a creative portfolio and resume. If you apply to pursue a pre-med track and purport to have practiced medicine that’s a major red flag, but you can’t apply to study fine arts and have never picked up a paintbrush.

What Classes Should I Take in High School to Become a Doctor?

Being a doctor is the goal for a lot of students. We work with pre-meds every year and they are some of the most serious and prepared students out there. While very few colleges have a specific pre-med major, pre-meds often gravitate to top-tier schools to study topics like Biology, Biochemistry, Neurobiology, and Physical sciences. Hopeful doctors should be taking classes not only to make themselves competitive college applicants but ones that will help them later on in their careers. Let’s go over the high school classes that we recommend for hopeful doctors.

Best Behavioral Economics Summer Programs

Taking a summer session is a great way to explore an academic topic you feel passionate about. Summer Pre-College programs also allow students to learn more about a topic that they may not have access to at their normal high school. If you are hoping to study Behavioral Economics and want to take a summer program in it, you have a couple of options. Two caveats: these programs can be expensive so make sure you check their price tags and many are not behavioral economics specific. While many of these cover topics in and related to behavioral economics, they often cover other economic topics as well.

The Best Colleges for your Astrological Sign: Aries

Alright friends, welcome to another iteration of our Astrology based college lists. The first step in the college application process is creating a list of colleges you would like to go to. Ideally, this should include a combination of safety, target, and reach schools. With so many schools to choose from, it can be difficult to figure out where to start. We are using character traits of astrological signs as a framework to create collegiate personality categories. We are approaching this as a fun experiment and by no means recommend seriously considering your astrological sign in your college decision.

How to Write a Good Resume for a College Application

When it comes to college applications, there are a few pieces everyone remembers without having to think too hard: the supplements, the activities section, the endless biographical information, and the all-important essay. There’s one part of the application, though, that tends to be forgotten. Hidden deep into the application process, and most often optional, the resume is consistently overlooked, ignored, or forgotten about.
